385 cases of various kinds of violence done against women have been registered with the women’s commission between 2010 and 2012. Assam ranks second (123.4) after Delhi (169.1) in the country in crimes against women.

Although improvement in girl education and decline in child marriage, improvement in maternal health shows progress; gender equality still remains a challenge. Measures need to be taken to ensure women’s economic empowerment by bridging the gender pay gap, which is 24% globally, ensuring gender-responsive economic policies for job creation, inclusive growth etc.
