Women working in organized sector had to join work in 12 weeks, right after childbirth. Health organizations worldwide deemed this as crucial loss to the child as it is essential that the mother breastfeeds their baby for a period of at least 6 months. Basing on this, the Indian Parliament has passed a new bill on Thursday granting women, working in organized sector, paid maternity leave of 26 weeks instead of 12 weeks. This Bill is going to greatly benefit 1.8 million working women in India.
